Hydraulic Brake Stick Master Cylinder

Postby kmacht » Wed May 30, 2012 12:14 pm

I decided to bite the bullet and bought hydraulic brakes for my sonex. At the same time I bought the master cylinder that goes on the stick and has a hand grip lever you pull to activate the barkes. This is the same one that Tracy O'brien and Hegar both sell. The problem I am running into is that the lever on the m/c is huge. I know I have seen this installed in other peoples planes but can't find where. I vaguely remember someone either cutting it down shorter or modifying it somehow. Can anyone point me in the direction of a build log that has used the stick mounted m/c before? I searched for about an hour last night and can't find the pictures I remember.

That what I have. Is that your setup Mike? The reason I am asking is because I don't I can go quite as low as that is mounted on the stick. The cylinder on the bottom hits the spar tunnel at full forward deflection. I know I saw somewhere were somebody modified the actual pull lever so that it was shorter and you can mount the whole assembly higher on the stick. I just haven't been able to find it.

Hi Kieth.
No it's not mine.Is it not possible for you to modify the control stick with a slight dog leg so that the existing lever handle can be kept intact?
I have no way of knowing how much of an adjustment you need but that handle looks like its cast and then plated in which case cutting a section out and welding it back together might be more problematic then altering your stick.
