MGL Xtreme Mini

Looking to replace my MGL Ultra. The Ultra has served me well (second hand when I got it 4 years ago) and I would get another if they were still available. However it has started to get lines across the screen which from experience from other electronic devices means it will only get worse.
My cheapest, easiest option so I can use the RDAC unit and wiring etc is to get a Xtreme mini. My concern having not flown behind one is the small size of this EFIS.
Comments from anyone who has used one of these would be appreciated.

Phil, I've had the Extreme in my Onex for 285 HRS and don't have a problem with it. If you are thinking it would be hard to read due to size, it's not. With the color programing, warnings appear in red, approaching temp. maximum settings are yellow, and maximums are red. Temps are all in green when O.K. Of course you program all the settings for your particular engine and airplane performance. There are advantages to the next larger size but coming from a round gage airplane, I've never had so much accurate information. The size is not a problem.

I agree the size is not a problem. I've been flying with it for nearly 6 years. It's roughly the size of a descent sized smart phone. So if you can read your smart phone at a typical reading distance, you can read the Extreme Mini in a Sonex. Gday Phil. I replaced Velocity singles with an extreme. I too had some concerns about the small screen and intended to use the extreme only for flight and use a separate home made LCD instrument for the engine. I got used to using the extreme for both flight and engine display so discarded the separate engine display idea.
I normally use the same screen as Mike. Flight stuff to the left and engine to the right. The fact all parameters can be recorded on an SD card is a bonus. It also has an inbuilt GPS and will drive MGL autopilot servos.

Steve makes a good point about the recording of all the flight and engine data. Be sure to check out the 'Flight Data Viewer' for the easiest way to view and use all that data. https://www.JASFlyer.COM

I have a MGL Ultra in my Waiex and it is probably ten years old now, I also purchased it second hand.
About two years ago the microprocessor in my Ultra failed and I thought I would have to take the path you are now following. However, I contacted MGL and they had it shipped back to South Africa for diagnosis and repair. Took about three or four weeks turn around.
Has worked perfectly ever since and I never received a bill.
I would suggest contacting MGL to see if you can still get a replacement screen.
I emailed MGL’s CEO at the time and he was exceptionally informative and helpful.
