I think several zenith carbs are flying on corvairs. Old but good.

Re: A couple of questions

Postby WesRagle » Tue Jul 16, 2019 9:28 pm

Hi Guys,

I need to plumb my oil and fuel systems. I want to make my own hoses. Other than that, this is not a place I want to try and save money. I just want the best.

What are the best hose and fittings available for to build "home made" hoses?

Best to me means: Durable, wide temp range, very high burst pressure, and max flexibility. I intend to use Av Gas only. However, I would also like the fuel likes to be compatible with ethanol to prevent a (distant) future accident.

So, can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for Your Time,

Wes

Re: A couple of questions (Control Cables)

Postby WesRagle » Sun Sep 01, 2019 12:44 pm

Hi Guys,

I am using this cable for carb heat:

I would like to leave more than 3 3/8" of the inner wire protruding from the outer sheath after cutting the cable to length.

Question: If the steel ball falls out will I be able to put it back in?

Thanks,

Wes

Wes,

Yes you can put it back IF you can find it. The ball is remarkably small.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to be careful and give it a shot.

EDIT: That wasn't too bad. That ball bearing is tiny. I was so focused on it that I almost lost the button and spring :-)

Re: A couple of questions (Zip Ties)

Postby WesRagle » Sat Sep 14, 2019 11:47 am

Hi Guys,

This is kind of a long shot but ...

I need to tame the FWF spaghetti explosion.

Does anyone have a specific part number (or brand) for zip ties (~7") that are known to survive years in the engine compartment?

Thanks for Your Time,

Wes

Re: A couple of questions (Fuel Valve)

Postby WesRagle » Sun Sep 15, 2019 9:01 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm confused again.

Question: How am I supposed to screw the fuel valve onto the nipple that screws into the finger strainer on a Onex tank? The handle won't clear the tank.

Thanks,

What a bugger!
Is it possible to loosen off the oops fitting and then using your third hand, hold the ball valve and rotate the whole oops fitting assembly to tighten up against the ball valve? Good luck, the Sonex has more room.

How about removing the handle? Might give enough room to turn it..or a 45 deg an- fitting

I haven't gotten there yet but I would suggest using an elbow to give clearance to turn the valve.
