This past Sunday I endeavored to complete the wing rigging for the second time. As chronicled here previously, my first attempt went awry due to an odd issue involving matched holes and my insistence on pilot drilling a hole that I should not have. So, new parts were installed.
So Sunday, after some rework and waiting for good weather, I once again spent the day leveling and setting up the wings on the fuselage in our driveway. After hours of setup and careful leveling and measuring, we were all set for the big moment.
Instead of having two nicely drilled holes and dancing about the driveway in celebration, I had one mostly nice hole and one ugly oval that resulted in my grumbling on social media and generally making my family avoid me for the better part of the next 36 hours.
So. I now join the ranks of builders who have suffered through the fate of having to rework the wing attachment.....stuff....though it seems as if I am destined to set a record for the most number of attempts.
As I told my friend Jim, one day I will look back on this and laugh. Just not today. Probably not next week, either.
Many thanks to all my fellow builders and Sonex/Waiex/whateverex pilots for the emotional support, kind messages, and collective kicks in the ass.
I shall report success....after a few more tries.
