Tony, Frank and Robbie: I can't thank you guys enough for the assistance. I've been told this forum is an excellent resource for anyone even contemplating a Sonex build; now I know that advice is indeed correct. It's frustrating to be all stoked about a major project, only to get hung on some minor glitch (as I am an engineer, you'd think I'd be used to this). But it's just as gratifying to know there's a large group of folks who've experienced the same frustrations, and are willing to share their knowledge for the good of all.

While not an assembly manual question, this is an assembly order question. The Sonex instruction sheet on skinning the wing says to attach the top skin, flip over, then the bottom skin, flip over again and attach the top leading edge, flip over again pull the leading edge down and fasten it.

I've got the top skin drilled and the bottom skin drilled, and wondering if there is a good reason to start with the top leading edge which means I have it flip it again. Id rather just leave the wing in its present position, that is bottom side up, and put the bottom leading edge on first. I'm having a difficult time flipping the wing especially as it getting heavier all the time. Is there a good reason not to do this?

Darrick,

I built both of my wings just like you are describing. Started at the top, then did the bottom, once I was ready to rivet the skin on the bottom was looking at me, and I just went for it. Probably forget to read the plans order of build for that step. I had no issues.

Just remember to square and level you wing before you begin to rivet.

Be extra careful with the leading edge skins. More than one of us had creased the aluminum skin trying to handle it and stretch it back to the spar.
