On Milwaukee sliding into lake Michigan: Boy did this post get messed up. Need a better proof reader, should have read:

Actually it would matter, the increased water level would wipe out some of the best beaches in Chicago.

Without Milwaulkee we would not have the Skymotor option for the Sonex.

The Skymotor: Great photo and no doubt a great engine. Now, will someone explain to me how this engine, and others like the Menasco/Ranger, manage to keep the pistons from being full of oil at all times? I am an automotive machinist, so I do understand engines, but the question has bugged me for years. What am I missing?

Isn't it a dry sump system? I'm sure some oil did settle in the pistons but would quickly get expelled on start up. Most of the oil stays in the external oil reservoir.

It looks like there is a sump behind the carb. I think those engines you pull through a few times to make sure no oil has leaked past the rings and filled the combustion chamber.
