Rudder pedal springs

I don't know how old is "too old" but many of us might agree that we're closer to the end of our flying career than the beginning. Just means we have to cram all the fun we can into the time remaining.

BTW, I turned 68 last April.

What is with all the young guys on this site. 70+ here and know there are some older Sonex drivers.

On the Cessna 120/140 association forum I had assumed it was a bunch of old guys. One time the question came up and it turns out a lot of the active folks were in their 20's. I had it all wrong.

Pardon me for protruding into this age conversation but my birthdate is June 20th nineteen thirty four.I started driving at 18 and flying at 17 as a member of the Civil Air Patrol.While i have been injured while racing[but never broken anything]i have never had a reportable highway or flying accident or incident.

I have had 27 surgeries including 4 joint replacements,4way heart bypass,close to death from sepsis.a broken back age 14 and much much more
like the two incurable cancers i have at the same time and was supposed to be dead in 07.
I am formerly Sonex # 544 and Onex #0040.
I am now searching for my next project which i shall have to build from this damned walker.
Tomorrow i will drive myself to the hospital for a full skeletal survey and sonogram as i did while in chemo for 2 years.
I have wrestled with giving up all kinds of activities in consideration for the safety of others and when in doubt, i give it up.

I get the impression there's a very large age range for Sonex people. Up at Oshkosh there were people from 20's to 80's all expressing interest in the design.

How many guys have left the rudder pedal springs off? I am just to the point of installing them and read that some don't bother.

I am also at that point right now, but am installing them as they are on the plans. They do not seem to do much though....

I plan to leave mine off. Weight is the enemy.

Although the springs would give you an opportunity to tweak rudder trim without the tab- just shorten one.

The only thing they really do is keep the slack out of the rudder cables on the ground. I had a spring break about 5 years ago. I removed both springs and left it like that.
