Wheel pant screws

Postby mike.smith » Sun Aug 03, 2014 3:44 pm

I'm having a hard time keeping all the wheel pant screws from loosening up. Even with Loctite some of them seem to loosen up pretty quickly. And adding Loctite every time is a pain. Does anyone have any solutions?

I had the same issue. Lost one pant in flight because of it.
I upsized to ¼ bolts with nylon nut plates. So far so good.

Drilled head bolts, wire tied.
Common aluminum (not SS) pull rivets with mandrels knocked out make nice neat holes in fiberglass to route wire through.

That's a good idea. Do you have any pictures so we can visualize it?

I just want to say that the video was absolutely amazing. Nice job on the landing.

Similar to the other posters, 3/16 screws, nut plates and in my case a sort of star fitting to allow the screws to be further away from the center of the axle. Had a little trouble with the bolts holding on the fitting (they are shared with the brakes), but wheel pants have been rock solid.
