Lightspeed PFX

Folks,

I finally swapped my venerable Halos for some Lightspeed PFXs today. We had got some Lightspeed Zulu 2s for Rosemary at the start of the year and had been really impressed.

Cons:

The headset itself is fairly similar to Lightspeed Z2s but the control unit is bigger and heavier. It has 4 AAs instead of two and it comes with a clip so you can hang it on something. I presently have nothing to hang it on so it is just a big thing you try to stick somewhere.
In ear stuff like the Halos and Clarity let you wear whatever you want on top of your head. Back to baseball type caps for this for reasons obvious.
They are expensive.

Pros:

After flying around with them, talking on the radio and talking to my passenger, they are absolutely stunning. I love my Halos but given you give up wearing crazy hats, the PFX kicks the crap out of everything else I have ever worn. The are _slightly_ better than the Zulu 2s which are still very good cans. It is amazing what a difference it makes to the Sonex environment. I can hear the engine, I can hear everything I need, but it just makes it a much nicer place to be.
Transmit clarity is far improved. No idea what they did here, but the Halos make it sound like I am transmitting from a noisy place. Not so on the PFXs. Huge improvement.
The cabling on the PFXs is like it is like thin rope, not electric cable. Not sure it really matters, but it is still pretty nice.
We are a Android/Windows mobile/tablet/pc family so I can't speak to all the cool i-apps that Lightspeed offer to integrate with it, but apparently these are nice.

Back in June, Rose and I went for a flight in ordinary weather. We got bumped around and she just couldn't hear me well and it was clear to me that I had to go back to the drawing board. A Dynon intercom with independent gating (yes, nothing but good things to say about this) for this first step to making this better. Am I pleased that I waited so long for these things to come out and that I paid $1.1K for them? Well, since I put that way, no, but Rose and I had _the_ nicest flight in "Flyin' Matilda" we have ever had this morning 30 minutes. Apparently they are worth the money.

Is this a criticism of my Halos? Heck no - they are a great headset, particularly for the money. No batteries, really light, wear whatever glasses/hats you want. But, if you want an amazing sonic environment, PFXs are worth a look.... as are the Zulu 2s.

Cheers,

Andrew
