Sonex in south florida want to trade flights? (RV8A)

Postby Judoka5051 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 11:17 am

I currently fly an RV8A, but I've always been interested in the sonex aircraft. The 8 is more plane than I really need, so I'd like to try a sonex on for size and possibly trade flights/rides with someone. Any sonex owners within 200 miles of X58 (indiantown) interested? I'd like to try on a TW plane since that is what I'd likely get. As for the "A" model, when I bought the partially built kit I foolishly thought it could be swapped to TW. Way more work than I thought!

Thanks, Lance

Lance,

All my buddies in FL have RVs so I can't help you there. Rus Stiles is close to finishing his -7 in his hangar at X58. I did a lot of flying out there. They used to rent a J3, BC12D, and a semi-airworthy 172 which was crashed some years ago. Plus I used to meet my acro instructor there. That was also where I really learned soft field technique with a bunch of standing water and that 172. I will ask my buddies if they know any local Sonex folks.

Small world isn't it? I know Rus, we collaborate all the time. He's very close to finished, maybe two months.

It is a small world! I have know Rus a long time. Do you know Dave Walsh or Kevin Phelps? Or I could summarize by saying all of the Sikorsky guys. I was a Judoka too but that was a long time ago.

I probably know them by sight. You also might know Bud Smith from P&W, he's flying his RV8 now. Btw you're the first person to ever know what my username means (on many sites too!) I used to have a judo club, but got too old for any more of "The gentle way" we used to practice.
