Tailwheel Spring

Postby Xenos29DN » Mon Jun 16, 2014 7:05 pm

Has anyone bent their tailwheel spring? I did on my Xenos and am wondering if I should just replace the spring with another like one, or come up with something stiffer.

I think I remember Kerry saying they flip them over at the factory and let them slowly bend the other way for a few months/years. I have not had the problem, but I did design a larger tailwheel bracket and a larger dia wheel to keep the vertical bolt from dragging on asphalt cracks. Helps a lot.

I bent a tail spring once. I couldn't turn it over as the hole wasn't drilled dead center. It was straightened in a press and has stayed straight for the last 8 years.

Bent mine last year, placed in a vise and put pipe extender over it. No problem, works fine.
