Looking for a stick boot pattern

Postby kmacht » Tue May 27, 2014 3:36 pm

Does anyone have a pattern for stick boots that fit the sonex they might be willing to send me a picture and some dimensions of? I didn't buy the sonex upholstery kit as my wife sewed up the seat cushions. I now need her to make up some stick boots but she needs a pattern to work off of. I can't be the first to make their own upholstery so if someone has a pattern they would like to share it would be appreciated

Keith,

If your wife is willing, she could make her own! Or you can do it for her. Take some scrap fabric and cut it into 3-4 pieces that roughly fit around the control stick and down into the recess for the yoke between the cushion. You'll want to move the control through its full range of motion, and adjust the fabric with safety or sewing pins until you reach a compromise on looks and functionality. You definitely don't want to restrict motion but you also don't want the boot too big. Once you find the balance, mark it before removing with a sewing chalk pencil or leave it safety pinned together.

Should take you less than 30 minutes to do, and then you have a pattern!

Hi Keith,

A timely post, I am in the process of fabricating stick boots as well. I remembered Eric Marenyi asking for a template early last year, thought he posted a file up on Sonextalk or Sonexplans but apparently not (that I can find, anyway). Searching past conversations I found a link to his page of how he made his own for a single stick...(so measurements may be different)

I had started to make 4 separate panels to sew together out of black vinyl but this might be easier once its all measured up.

Nah.. I've seen your photo Eric..

Anyway, finished making a pair of stick boots. Could do with a little rework, like making felled seams for all the joins. (like the front seam)
Also used marine grade vinyl which is thicker and stiffer, thus a little inflexible. I expect they will wear in a bit once they're in use.

I have some rough sketches of the dimensions I used I could scan and put up if anyone wants a starting point

LOL! Good looking boots, I think it would be nice to upload a sketch right into this thread.
