About the priming and corrosion issue. 6061 is pretty good everywhere except if you live or operate near a sulfer source or an acid rain area. I live about 10 miles from an active volcano. 2024 is death without a primer even if it is clad in my area and 6061 will gets surface corrosion (pits) on open surfaces. My airport is Hilo and it is a 1/4 mile from the ocean and some 22 miles from the volcano. 6061 and clad 2024 both work pretty well there. I have determined that the reason is: it rains 125 inches a year and it washes the bad stuff off. On Maui (which is next to the ocean) the corrosion is severe. I primed everything and painted the exterior. I used ANC bolts where I figured the stress wasn't too high. My neighbor polished his Sonex and keeps it at the airport. He did paint the laps though. I am always amazed at how well it does. After a couple of years it is getting cloudy but nothing a little elbow grease would not fix. If I lived in Kansas i would leave the weight in the can.
