If I can get someone to ferry my camping gear, I'll probably camp. I have reservations at the dorms, but I'd prefer to camp. My son will be with me so that leaves little room/weight for gear.
I do have a friend who just bought a C175. If I can convince him to come to OSH and carry my gear, that would be wonderful.

Well, Oshkosh 2014 must be getting closer...the NOTAM book is now available online and you can order a printed copy as well. See here: http://www.airventure.org/news/2014/140 ... nload.html

For those of you who are flying in but haven't done so before, start reading! The arrival procedure is simple overall but you will do yourself a big favor by reading up a little prior to arrival.

Since we're on the subject, who all is planning on attending and/or flying in this year? Hard to believe it will be here in 3 months! Can't wait to see everyone there!

I plan to arrive for the fifth consecutive year in the orange machine.

I'll not be arriving from any far away places this year but really looking forward to it!

I plan on flying up this year in Sexy Hexy. I will Probably camp in homebuilt camping next to my bird. The last time I did this, I taxied to the Sonex parking twice, and to the open house. No problems. I had a great time. I suspect Mike Singleton will also be there. I hope this turns out to be another great Sonex adventure!

This will be my first time PIC flying in. Do you veterans recommend planning a stop right before OSH to refuel, is so, where? I'll be coming in from the southwest. Initial planning shows I will need at least two fuel stops (one in Nebraska, one in Iowa) from the Denver area and be rather light on arrival. Plan to leave Denver early Sunday morning with hopes to arrive early afternoon. Will be departing Wednesday morning back to Colorado.

My secret spot is Reedsburg (C35) Several hotels within two blocks (easy walking) and a nice little town. I plan on stopping there the night before the factory gathering. It would be really fun to turn this into a Sonex rally point.

I've only flown the Waiex into OSH once but in order to make sure I hit RIPON with plenty of fuel (always a good idea), I stopped at Watertown, WI (RYV) for fuel. Very close to OSH and there's normally some traffic, but they did a great job of getting us fuel quickly and back on our way. I can't remember what the discount is, but they run fuel discounts for those heading to AirVenture. It was also the meeting point for the Short Wing Piper Club, so there were lots of Tri Pacers and Colts there as well.

This is just my own recommendation, but I wouldn't want to hit RIPON unless I had at least 90 minutes of fuel, just in case!

I have flown in 3 times, and stopped at Portage each time before continuing on. It is only 50 miles from KOSH, and flying direct from Portage to KOSH will put you on the Ripon arrival path. They also have Auto gas there if you want it. Top off before you arrive for cheap gas. You can get gas at KOSH, but it is a premium and you have to hunt down the truck, schedule a fill up, etc. On top of that, you may be in a holding pattern for a while on the arrival.

Other advice for any newbies:

I would say that you should come early (like Saturday before start) if you can, and do not arrive in the late afternoons (Arrivals halted during the airshow) or evenings after the airshow. The traffic after the airshow gets a little nuts. Read the NOTAM and carry it with you. The arrival is not something you want to just wing. It gets busy, and a surprising number of pilots do a poor job of planning the arrival at OSH, and then they arrive as though they are the only ones in the sky. Don't be this guy.
