Wheel for hand brake

Postby mike.smith » Mon Apr 07, 2014 12:37 am

I installed a 1" dia nylon wheel for the cable at the hand brake. That wheel is getting completely crushed. Anyone have a source for a 1" dia metal wheel? I haven't found anything locally (screen door wheels or pulleys). Online the ones I see have a rivet acting as the axle, which is too small for what it needs to be for the Sonex. Pulley wheels all seem to be a bit too big.

Thanks,
Mike Smith

Quick Internet search:

I found something similar at True Value.

I remade the square aluminum piece out of some scrap 3/4" plate, big enough to accept a 1" aircraft cable pulley I had in my spares box.

I machined one out of 6061-t6 bar stock. worked perfectly until I decided to go with hydraulic toe brakes and Matco wheels and brakes. Much happier now. SNX1454
