I've made some thin aluminum shims to take up the slop in the axle and get it just right.

Is this more a less a thin washer with the inside diameter the same as the axle diameter? I guess it would have to be very thin. It seems the best position for the axle nut is exactly between two holes in the axle, so the washer would have to be 1/12 of a thread thick. I'm not sure what the axle threads per inch are, but if it's 12, then the shim would have to be 1/144" (.006944"). That's pretty thin!

I suppose it could be an odd multiple of .006944", too (like 1/16").

Yes, basically a washer. Not as critical as you are thinking - a normal thin washer plus turning it out another castellation or two may get you what you need.

Maybe taxiing it around a bit will loosen it up. If it's still tight, I'll try the washer fix. Thanks!
