Engine poll over at Onexplans

Postby Mike53 » Fri Mar 14, 2014 4:46 pm

I started a poll over at onexplans and since I can't post anything over there since the new "and improved" format I will post here .It was asked if a added choice, 'undecided' ,could be added.
I tried that and what happened was all the votes up to that point were deleted. So no I don't think I can.I've said it before and i will repeat it again I hope Yahoo chokes on there so called improvements.
They are idiots with attitude.
Cheers'

Hi Mike.
Just looking to see what other Onex builders are planning for an engine. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/one ... polls/open

I gotcha. I don't have access to the Onex forums, so let us know what people say about engine options on the Onex. I would have to assume most people will stick with a VW conversion of some type, but this will be an interesting survey regardless.

Thanks for sharing!

Choosing an engine is difficult. Nice to see this poll. Revmaster and Aerovee are equal now. Living in Europe the support issue is also a bit different than most others. Here it is all Rotax, VW went out of fashion 20 years ago. Sauer is still going strong, but for how long? The same goes for Revmaster also due to custom parts. With a Rotax I would have to build everything FWD from scratch, all alone, even though the engine itself is the best supported by far. Maybe ULPower is better, at least some Onex'es has ULPOwer.

All in all, regarding support, the Aerovee comes out on top right now. Sonex has great support, even overseas.

A real hard nut to crack, and too many engine options that have their pros in very different directions.

For those that are interested the current totals are
Aerovee 12
Revmaster 6
Great Plains 1
Hummel 1
Other 2
and I know that before I lost the first set of data that UL power had 1 vote and I'm pretty sure Rotax had one also?
I'm a bit surprised that Aerovee and Revmaster are running neck and neck.
