AeroVee Charging issues

I have the stock Sonex vr with an Earthx battery. About 5 minutes after takeoff, I'll show 14.2v. charge rate starts out around 10amps or so and goes down to 1 as the voltage goes up. I ran ground wires for all the electrical and used a ground bus or two. I didn't use the airframe for grounding in any case except the ground buses are riveted to the airframe but connected to the battery by a heavy wire. Knock on wood, my electrical system works
