The Jab Gen-4 2200 would have been my engine of choice had I built a Onex. Since the Gen-4’s have come out, there is a marked decrease on the net in complaints, which bodes well. Pity it took Jabiru 30 odd years to get the issues sorted out, with the new heads being screwed to the barrels.
I ended up buying a Onex which came with an AeroVee. Having had some previous experience with both flying behind an VW and building a Formula Vee, will persevere with the AeroVee for now. Previous builder did a cracking job on this Onex and had set his up in a logical manner as per the build manual, but nevertheless I will be stripping down the AeroVee and doing some basic “mods” to sort it out further, especially in getting the bottom end balanced up properly. It is at the moment, a perfectly usable little engine but there are areas where you can focus on to give a little more HP, especially cooling, valve lift, exhaust, etc, which should give a more usable engine.
It would be interesting to hear what the performance figures are like with the Jab 2200 and how they compare with the AeroVee?
