Tire profile change

Postby LarryEWaiex121 » Tue Aug 01, 2023 11:18 am

For years I've purchased the Chenn-Shinn tires (11x4.00x5.00 from aircraft spruce. I just received new tires and they are a completely different profile. Much wider and flatter than the old tires I've used for 13 yrs.
I called Spruce and they said the old tires were discontinued and this is the replacement. I asked them why they didn't indicate the tires are supposed to be a direct replacement but actually different? Basically, you got what you got and go away!
The issue is, after airing these up, I'm guessing they may not fit with any clearance inside my wheel pants.
Hoping I'm wrong because i really don't want to grind up the edges of my pants.

Larry,
I'm very interested to hear how this works out. I use those tires too. I have a spare set and my current ones are half worn out.

If need to modify the wheel pants, might consider moving up to the 5.00 x 5 real aircraft tires. Just split the wheel pants at the bottom an splice in wedge shaped pieces.
