Sonex Open House

Postby tps8903 » Mon Jun 12, 2023 5:56 pm

I'm planning on flying from Central Florida (X61) to Peru, IL (KVYS) on Sat July 22, and staying the night there. I'm then planning to make the open house the next morning.

Who else is attending the open house. Just out of curiosity.

Anyone else flying up from the Southeast?

If I can figure out my cooling issues in the next 7-10 days, I hope to fly Sonex #1339 from Seattle to OSH and take part in the Open House. The rough plan (due to the tight cockpit and limited baggage space):
  • Fly part of the way with my Dad (he took me to many airshows as a kid, so this is my opportunity to return the favor)
  • Rent a small RV (Class B+ or short Class C) a couple-hundred miles from OSH
  • Ship some of our luggage ahead-of-time to the RV rental location/owner
  • Dad drives the RV the last 4-6 hours to OSH
  • Attend the Open House and stay for at least the first 3-4 days of AirVenture

I'm planning 250 - 300 mile legs (~2 hours of flight time) using the Turbo to fly at ~9500' MSL. I figure we can do 3 legs per day. If I add 1 day for weather, its a 3-4 day trip each way (note that I'm fully equipped for night flight, if necessary).

I'm open to ideas and critique from those of you who've done it before!

I'm planning similar but for a shorter overall distance. I am doing 2 hr legs and planning 32" MAP at what ever altitude gives me the best winds. That's about 150mph not account ting winds.
