I called the Allentown, Pa FSDO. They emailed me the forms to fill out, which I returned completed. Two inspectors from the FSDO drove out to the hangar a few days later and gave me the temp. I showed them my handwritten log, pics on my laptop, plans and a folder of receipts. I gave them a brief tour of the airplane, pointing out the aircraft docs. It was probably the easiest task of the entire project. Interestingly, the senior guy was aware of this forum.

Better, just enjoy the sport within the rather liberal bounds of the law :)

I should finish my story. I found a generic email link on the FAA website and asked about getting my repairman certificate. A week or so later I was contacted by a local guy with the Chicago FSDO and he said he could come out to C77 to do the paperwork. That happened today. Super easy and I've started my annual condition inspection!
