My Onex absolutely gets the performance they advertise. Its a great little flyer. It does 140 mph at 3000 ft and 4 GPH. I weigh 160 and it meets all the performance numbers they have on the website. During Phase 1, I did some landings at 1.1 Vso and could get 500 feet standing on the hydraulic brakes pretty aggressively. However I'm much more comfortable around 70 over the numbers. I usually use around 1000 ft with light braking. I only land at regular airports so this is not really an issue. The shortest place I go is 2600 and I don't have any problem at the midfield turnoff. I don't remember paying as close attention to the takeoff distances but I think 500 is about right. I usually lift the tail ASAP and then leave it on a little longer to lift off around the 70 mark and then let it accelerate to around 90 for the climb. I would like it a little taller on the gear.
This is my 3rd AeroVee. I noticed John mentioned somewhere he builds them to 8.5:1 so I did on this build. I think I'm around 75 hours with oil changes, valve adjustments, and head re-torques.
