The first canopy was a real bear. Learning curve is steep. The second one was a breeze.
You need a second set of hands to help guide the glass with the band saw.

I'm just doing the windshield for now. I'm actually waiting to rig my wings and trying to find things to do until I can, the windshield is one of them.
The reason I'm waiting to rig the wings is because I'm waiting for this:

It's known as "the wing rigging kit" and it goes from builder to builder here among us Australian builders. I'm next in line but will have to wait another week or two for the builder who currently has it to finish up rigging his wings. I think I can do the windshield in that time but doubt I'll have the canopy done by then as well. I'll probably do that straight after (while it's still nice and warm here in Aus).

Hi Michael,

That particular kit got lost by Australia Post, unfortunately. The actual pilot drill was excellent and drilled a perfect hole for a firm push on the bolts to get them in. The replacement kit isnt quite as good but still does the job. I helped another Aussie builder use it a couple of months ago, we had to updrill with a slightly larger bit afterwards. The pilot drill also tends to wander if you get any side pressure on it, take it slow and easy and back out ofter to clear the chips.

Hi Tony,
when you say you had to updrill with a slightly larger bit afterwards, was this because the bolts did not quite fit or was it because the hole was not perfect and you increased hole & bolt size?
Did they dull the pilot bit before it was first used? It should be dulled to stop the bit from wandering.

Anyway, first things first, this weekend I'm starting on the windshield.
