Deburring MS20257-P3 Piano Hinges

Postby dxlusby84 » Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:41 pm

Greetings Builders,

For the piano hinges that come in our various kits used with the elevators & rudders, do these hinges require deburring of the machined part (before any rivet holes)? By that, I mean all straight stock edges, the straight edges of each knuckle, and each knuckle's rolled edges (both exterior and interior)... If so, what have you found is the best tool to do this? A grinder wheel won't have the agility to get in there, dremel bits with tapers always feel like they're too aggressive and won't get to the rolled interiors - does that leave just using a good array of micro files and doing it "the hard way" ?

Thanks

I never found any burrs on the machined edges of the Piano hinges.

You might just give them a quick scrub with a scotchbrite pad.

I'm usually a deburring nutjob. I only deburr the ends where I cut them.

These wheels are a little pricey but do the job quickly and professionally. Get yourself a HF buffer and stand and your good to go.

The piano hinges are anodized, so any attempt to de-burr them will only compromise their corrosion protection.
A cut edge and/or a drilled hole should be the only reason to de-burr a hinge half.

Sounds like these machined parts are the exception to the deburring rule... Will inspect them, of course, but not obsess over deburring them during part prep.

Thanks,
