Oil sump plate - need some advice

Postby Bryan Cotton » Thu Mar 03, 2022 12:06 am

So the manual says :
Install the steel bottom plate, or optional ACV-P02-20 Oil Sump Plate, with the 6mm copper washers from the oil change kit and the 6mm nuts from the shakeproof nut kit. Do not over-tighten these nuts.

On my first go-around I think I used torque specs from the table in the back, where it says:
Oil Pan Cover Nuts..............10mm.................5(ft-lb)................60(in-lb)

The copper washers were looking a bit mangled after that. This was a long time ago and I may have gotten the wrong torque value, but I'm not sure about that. Any advice on putting on the oil pan cover/sump plate and having it be good?

I have a 10mm nut driver and let my wife tighten them with one hand. Tighten them as tight as you could with a slippery screwdriver handle.

Just make sure the sealing surfaces are spotlessly clean and using a straight edge, make sure surfaces are true and flat. Use new copper sealing washers and follow what ever torque the engine manufacturer advises and you shouldn't have any troubles. Maybe some blue loctite if you are worried about low torque values working loose.

Here is what I do; clean everything, use copper washers and acorn nuts, but insert an internal tooth lockwasher between the nut and copper washer, and before installing, use Turn Lubricant (aka fuel lube) fron ACS on copper washers and studs. tighten to spec. I have not had any seepage or looseness. Turn lube is not soluable in anything petro based, and is a thick paste. Of course dont get inside engine anywhere as it will not disolve at all
