Wing stand/rack

Postby Tony4aro » Thu Feb 10, 2022 2:48 pm

Hi All,

I found a thread that showed a wing rack... but the PDF of the plans is no longer supported. Does anyone have them, and can up load to this site? I know I can make them from the pictures I've found... but measurements would be good.

Thanks

My wing stand/rack, which I got third hand from previous builder,s has dimensions of:
Bottom pan 3' X 7"
Vertical 2 X 4 height 5' 2" (2 X 4s going up at each end in the middle of the pan), with a 2 X 4 going across the length of the pan at the top of the vertical 2 X 4s
Tires are 10" with castoring on one end, very easy to move around and keep out of the way.

That's the one I built. I still have it 12 years later. In fact, it's being used to hold a friend's Cessna wings right now!

Hi All.

I decided to do the "Sonex" version from the lower PDF. Just because it looked easer to do. I'm making a couple tweaks to it. Where the bolt holds the straps... I'm going to add a small D-ring so I can put a strap over the wings for a little added security when moving them around. BUT... to let people know... with today's inflation... it looks like it's closer to $100 for everything. $15 for the strap, $6 each for the casters (rubber 3") $7 each for the 2x4's, $17 for the 2'x4' ply (15/32") $8 per box for the screws. and the rest in Msc Hardware.

I'll post some pics after I get it built.

Recognize!!!

In the early 60s, my dad built a small boat for my brother and me from Popular Science plans called "The 20 Buck Dinghy". As listed, all components required to build said boat was just under 20 dollars.

Today, that same materials package is over $400.

I got time to build my wing rack today. Took about 3rhs of non-rushed work. The PDF is great. Just cut out the parts, and screw it together. To keep from damaging the straps... use a hot nail to make holes. I used an old butane soldering iron to make holes. It was convenient and worked perfect. I also added D-rings to I could strap the wings on to the stand. Don't need them to fall off when rolling it around.
