Need some advice

Hello Again Everyone,

My third post here. I pulled the trigger on a partial built Sonex. The build quality is phenomenal, I'm just going through all the assembly now with a fine tooth comb. Unfortunately the previous builder passed away two years ago, so I am picking up where he left off.

My first in a series of likely very stupid questions. This is my second airplane build, but this will be my first Sonex, and first in Aluminum.

I'm not familiar with this style of fuel vent. I posted a picture with this post. It's black piece. I thought it would have had a hole for venting in it, but it does not, then I wondered if it was some sort of check valve vent so fuel doesn't exit the tank. Does anyone recognize it, and if so can you educate me?

Was just about to post that the vent looks like my design, but XenosN42 has already done so. Mine has been in service since 2012 with no problems.
