I made mine, similar to the one Robbie links to, Made my probe an airfoil shape, which made drilling the two long holes very tricky, but was successful on first try. Saw a post where somebody made the probe in two halves so the "holes" could be milled into one halve and then bonded together. I used a flat style meter rather than round, but either will work depending on where you want to put it. PM me if you want more info and photos.

I am about to purchase a back up ASI - could really do with some advice on "scale" in knots, suitable for Sonex air speeds.

It seems that I could go for a 50-57 mm (2-2 1/45 inch) ;
20-160 knot
30-160 knot
In a get home situation, circuit/landing speeds are likely to be the most helpful so I havent gone for anything starting at 40 knots.

Your advice will be very much appreciated.

I have a WINTER sailplane ASI in my Xenos. Good scale in the low range whereas others for GA aircraft are not. My minimum sink speed is 45 kts and I can see noticable needle movement of a couple kts off from that. Top end is 160 kts. I haven't ventured close to that.
