rivet gun nose size

Postby iancshippee » Tue Nov 02, 2021 2:49 pm

Hi all, when my friend gave me his sonex project he included a number of different tools, including a textron rivet gun. it appears that for some spots, the nose of the gun is a bit too wide for the space (riveting wing ribs, for example.) does anyone know if there's a narrow nose attachment for this gun? searching the web has left me empty-handed so far. I'll reply with what exact model gun it is later on, I'm not home at the moment and can't remember offhand!

I'm not familiar with that gun, but I've ground down a few nose pieces before. I find that I can swap nose pieces between my pneumatic guns and some of my hand guns.

I've ground down the nose on my hand puller before but never have on my pneumatic.

I'm not sure exactly what problem you are having, but this tool can often be helpful in tight spots.

For tight locations buy the $30 harbor freight pneumatic river gun and use a belt sander to shave down the nose. That is what I did on my project and it worked great. The rivet gun is cheap enough that even if you only use it with a ground down nose for tight spaces it’s worth it.

The really cheap HF hand rivet gun tips interchange with the pneumatic tips.

Search on ebay for a "PRG 410" rivet tool. It's way narrower than anything else I've found. I think I found one on ebay for less than $20 and it's been super handy many times on my build!

Thanks for the input, everyone! the original builder sent me a care package of some more specialized tools he had packed away, and I'll be picking up a few more of my own as well. project went on hold for a short time; my wife "commisioned" me to rebuild a tractor for someone, and that project is nearly done. I'll be happy to have my work space freed up again!

PRG-412 is also an acceptable narrow headed riveter you really only need it for the first 3 ribs and for the rest of the ribs the wedge is all you need
