Hello All,

I've been seriously considering undertaking a SubSonex project for a couple of years and, having sold my latest build (an RV-14A) last fall, am getting closer to pulling the trigger.

I'm concerned with the insurance situation, though, and am hoping for some straight information from the guys who know what's what. When I spoke to my insurance girl last year about the SubSonex, the answer was (paraphrasing), "Ha! Not at any price." Apparently, the number of airframes is still too low and and the number of gear-up incidents too high (including John Monnett's) for the companies to be comfortable with the perceived risk. Nevermind my ratings and hours (1K+ TT including 100s in retracts). She was fine with an L-39 and a CJ4+, but literally laughed when I mentioned the SubSonex.

So, what are guys doing for insurance? If the answer is to self-insure, that's a complete non-starter. What's the real scoop?
