Maybe I can dish those washers out and maybe use an extra washer or two and longer bolts

I'm sure I was enlightened by someone on this site. I have no idea where I got them from, but the part number is 3068-03 and the description is 3/16 inch Rod End Retaining Washer.

I pressed on the bolt and cupped the washer. No more interference but the washer will still retain a failed rod end.
