Please stop flying that airplane until you get the issue found and sorted out. An aerovee engine quitting at 1400 or 1600 rpm while landing is NOT NORMAL! You will end up dead should something cause you to suddenly need to go around and be unable to do so. Just leaving your wife on the ground doesnt make it any safer for you or the people/place you crash into. Call the factory and get their take on what to check and look for. Again, the situation you describe is not normal and should be considered as making the airplane unairworthy until it is fixed. We have lost too many people in the Sonex community due to engine issues. Don't be another statistic.

Probably not too rich of a mixture. Sounds like the "Burps" on a grand scale. Burps translates to vapor lock.
No turbo here, but after I got the injector sorted out, I could count on a hiccup or two in flight and during the taxi in. I wrapped the gascolator in aluminum foil and wrapped the exhaust with the fancy schmancy heat wrap. Problem solved.

I use MOgas, live in the same state, don't have a problem.

I live in Phoenix. Pretty hot here in the summer like 106 -118f! I started having that problem last year. I have all of my firewall forward gas line wrapped in firesleeve. I do not run a gascolator. I sorted out the Aeroinjector tuning to make sure it was right.

I took the advice of others by adding a NACA duct to the bottom of the cowl per pics in this thread. I also added about 32 square inches of additional cowl exit area using two 4 x 4 vents on the bottom of the cowl. These changes cured the problem for me.

I can now land with the throttle pulled back to idle, (which I keep at 1000 rpm), without the Aerovee Turbo quitting. I only run 100LL AvGas. I built the turbo with a 7:1 compression ratio.

Lou,

I remember seeing the temporary scat hose you set up but I don’t remember seeing ur final product of the Daca vent and enlarged exit.

Has anybody considered installing the Anti-Splat cowl flap for adding cooling for taxiing/take off/ landing? (I haven’t started my project yet so maybe it isn’t possible…?)

I replaced the temporary 1-inch scat tube with a NACA duct in the cowl bottom as seen in others pics. Seems to have done the trick.

I didn't use the AntiSplat cowl flap, but I did install their oil separator. I switched from the Aerovee separator because the AntiSplat was so much smaller and the room behind the turbo is at a premium.

The AntiSplat separator has a fitting that runs to the exhaust pipe and creates slight crankcase suction. Immediately after installation and the first flight, I realized that my Aerovee no longer seeped oil past the oil slinger and crankshaft behind the prop hub. I removed the modified oil seal and holding bracket I was using and it is dry to this day.

Hey Guys,

It seems a lot of guys have solved the problem of fuel vapor forming at the carb fuel inlet by cooling the carburetor body. It might work just as well if you cooled the carb from the inside out. Plus you could pick up 10% power. Cold air induction! I've flown an AeroCarb that way in the heart of the icing curve with no carb heat and no problems.

Thanks,

Snarky
