Now that I have the current set up “fettled” and flown a few times – it’s a joy to use. It provides a much more convincing closure AND OPENING ACTION as it acts against the locater pin. No more fumbling to keep the canopy in place as you pull the rail back. It’s about 1000% better than the original Sonex concept and MUCH more understandable to a passenger during the safety brief.

Hi all, Graeme,
Thanks for being the beta tester on this latch. I just received my latch from peter. quality is excellent.
ship time from OZ about 2 weeks with express post. peter now includes flush screws or rivets to install per your reccomend.
This latch is a huge safety upgrade so a first responder can open the canopy from the outside . One other item is to get a decal from aircraft spruce to show open direction.
David , welcome to the sonex community. Have fun with your new aircraft. I had the pleasure of staying during airventure at an air b&b house a few years ago with max. His aircraft looks top notch.
Thanks to Fritz , Chapter 555 new mexico with the waiex and his latch who got a few to design some varients
of the idea.

Be safe and fly safe out there!

It doesn't fit the B model. I will do one for the B model but a couple of the parts have to be a different shape and I think the canopy side rail may have to be reinforced.

A few people have asked if the A model canopy latch can be fitted to a Onex and the answer is YES but it requires modification of the hook angle. Another problem is that many Onexes have their throttle mounted high on the left side where it will interfere with the canopy latch. US Onex flyer, Tom Helm, didn't want to move his throttle lower and suggested a rear fitting canopy latch. Between us, this is what we came up with: a latch that can be fitted at the rear of the canopy and operated with one hand. These should also be suitable for Sonex A models. Here's the basic assembly:

Here is a short video of Tom's latch in operation: http://www.ansoneng.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Rear-canopy-latch.mp4
