Heated Seat Switch

Postby Spaceman » Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:14 pm

For anyone who has bought the heated upholstery from the factory, did it come with a switch for the seat heaters? I asked Sonex what switch they use, they told me that they think it comes with the upholstery kit, but I haven't been able to get any more detail than that.

I will probably buy the factory upholstery but if I do it'll be one of the last things I buy. However, I want to get my panel done now so I want to get one of those switches, or at least the specs for it so I can leave the right amount of space and cut the correct size hole!

I've seen this same switch on a few panels but I can't find it anywhere. Attached is a zoomed in photo of the factory B-model. Does anyone know what that seat heat switch is?

My seat heater kit from Amazon came with everything needed, including the switch. From what I've seen most of the kits are like that. It's likely the switch will be provided with the kit (along with the relay and some wiring).

Can you please give us a reference or a link for the seat heater kit you bought from Amazon?

Thanks

Carlos,

The kit I bought was similar to this one. The full details are on my website (http://sonex604.com/seat_heater.html). They work great, and are very simple to install. I highly recommend them.

Haven't checked out the factory heated upholstery, but about 4 yrs back, I purchased one of those car seat heaters off Amazon for about $25.
Honestly it works great and in the warmer times you just leave it in the hanger.
One of my primary concerns was how much amperage it drew and that information was illusive from most suppliers. Since I intended to use this on my 12V output on the panel, I needed to know this number. My panel plug in is on a 5 amp circuit breaker.
When I received the unit I plugged it into my pick up and put an amp clamp on it. It only drew about 3 amps on low and 4.3 on high.
As a practical matter, I only use the low setting because on high it will roast you. Even on low it has to be cycled off occasionally to keep from getting overly warm on my lower back.
I'm glad to see the factory offer heat seaters. Much safer option for some warmth than engine related heaters in my opinion. And lighter weight all the way around.
