Canopy latch with automatic lock

Postby peter anson » Wed Jul 01, 2020 6:53 am

A couple of months ago Fritz Wagoner (hope I got the name right) came up with a neat idea for a canopy latch which locked by the handle going "over center". A couple of people have asked me if I was interested in making a production version. I liked the original idea but I wanted something that was even more positively locked, a sort of belt plus braces. It had to be easy and intuitive to use and capable of being opened from the outside. Here's the plan:

Here's the prototype:

And here's a link to a short video demonstrating the operation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvCBIxyOqBM&feature=youtu.be

The locking mechanism is a simple ball in the hole type. Mass is about 140 grams. If there is sufficient interest in these I'll get a batch made.

Excellent! Put me on the list, was already planning on putting in an order for some of your products.

(Too bad I already cut the slide hole in my canopy...)

Canopy latch with automatic lock

Hi Peter

Do you think this latch mechanism would be adaptable for the Swing back type canopies?

If yes, count me in.

Will work on either side of the aircraft. Just a matter of reversing the handles. I'll get a batch made. Check my web site http://www.ansoneng.com/ for updates in a few weeks. I still have to solve a couple of little manufacturing problems. Don't have any firm price yet as I need to get prices from suppliers.
