RPM at TAS

Postby Thermalflyer » Sun Apr 26, 2020 12:06 pm

I am working on a project that requires some info for the ONEX with the 80 HP engine and standard gear.
Specifically: What RPM do you see at level flight and 60, 70 and 80 MPH TAS

Hello unnamed poster,

I'm curious: what is the nature of your project?

Here is the data for my OneX

Seconds | TAS (MPH) | RPM
117 | 92 | 2,682
71 | 81 | 2,646
46 | 71 | 2,464

Density altitude = 3,400 ft
OAT = 70 (F)
Weight = ~ 870 lb
Wing span = 18'19"
Wing area = 78 sq feet
Engine = AeroVee 2.1, naturally aspirated
Propeller = Sensenich W54JV5L44G
Conventional gear

Let me know if I've left anything out.

Question about the question....?

Why would you want to fly at a sustained flight speed of 60, 70 and 80 mph?

The only time I fly at those speeds is on the climb out or on 'final'.
At no other time would I want to fly at those slow speeds...…..just saying.

I need to calculate horse power to convert to KW. I am considering an electric so knowing KW at a few points on the power curve I can calculate how long it would fly and at what speeds based on a battery of 22KWH.

I have a Sonex with a Jabiru 2200 (80 HP) with a 54/46 Tennessee Prop. I went up this morning to 5,000 DA and 25C. It was a bit bumpy but here are my numbers.
60 IAS -- 2240 RPM
70 IAS -- 2350 RPM
80 IAS -- 2400 RPM
