I've got some sticky residue from tape on the windscreen. What can (or can't) be used to remove it?

Dawn doesn't do it.

WD40 is reputed to remove glue if you let it sit for a little bit. I used mineral spirits before too on the aluminum part labels. Same thing. It has to sit for a minute or two. Hope you have some scrap left over to try some ideas.

While fitting the windshield bow, I saw I was wearing through the protective film on the Lexan, so I protected it with shipping tape. That's the adhesive residue I'm trying to remove.

I wiped a scrap piece with lacquer thinner a half an hour ago. There are no short term effects. Long term crazing might be the issue.

The international symbols on the protective layer shows I'm not supposed to pour anything out of a test tube on it. Only slightly vague.

Try some high quality automotive wax and gently rub it out.

I have used Goo Gone on plastics and rubber without side effects. It is pretty mild. As always, test on a piece of scrap.

That's the problem with trying anything that doesn't have a history with Lexan specifically. Thinner didn't seem to soften the material, but who knows about it long-term. I did use Goo-Gone, and it worked well, but it's a little troubling the directions require removing the Goo-Gone with hot water and soap. What happens if you don't get it all?

Too late now. If there's some kind of reaction, I'll keep you posted.

Goo Gone

I have used Goo Gone with good results at removing residue and no harm was done.

Using lacquer thinner, MEK, etc is fine on aluminum but will attack the plexi and lexan.

Eucalytus oil is great at removing tape or sticker gum. Its definitely safe to use on perspex, not 100% sure about lexan, but it would be the first thing I'd try.

Just removed a bit of dried up tape gum with this stuff on my own windscreen. it worked fine and doesn't affect the lexan.

I have had good luck with using peanut butter for removing label glue. rub on and let set overnight and try to rub off with terry cloth the next day.
