I agree completely that we should all look out the window, and certainly not all traffic broadcasts an ADS-B signal.

But there are benefits aside from traffic - weather being a prominent one. I get METARs and TAFs, plus radar. Even flying VFR this is great information.

You can do ADS-B in for less than $200 easily using a Stratux.

This is the one I use. Has ahars to my iPad also. Works well and passes the faa tests. I know of another person that has one with no problems.
