Hi david, all,
I’ve been watching the zoom platform and news stories on it. Yesterday, nyc schools stopped using it over security
concerns. CNN had a interview with the ceo and founder , who quote ‘ we have fallen short on privacy and security’.
hacking and photo bombing with porn has happened. The company has been accused of selling your personal data to facebook. Use at your own risk. For now im opting out. For others who use it, have fun!

Hello,
Just my take on Zoom security, Zoom had some sudden growing pains and are certainly in the spotlight. We have already seen them quickly address many of the concerns and working hard to make sure they are doing the right thing, which is the most you can ask for a software company. I personally am not a Zoom subscriber (I'm a MS Teams user), however I do participate in Zoom meetings on a daily basis. We also have customers that are no longer using Zoom, but for our purposes here I feel it is safer than some alternatives. Again, just my take, it was a great meeting and nice to meet everyone.

Watch out in email for fake Zoom meeting requests which link to a download that LOOKS like Zoom but is actually a download of Ransomware. We started seeing it over the weekend - in particular church meets. The first email was the real one - the second would refer to "technical problem with first link - use this one". "This one" is the ransomware link. As the second email was sent to the SAME list as the first - looks like Zoom still have a way to go to secure their back end.

This is all accurate information and I respect those who opt out because of it. I like to call this “informed consent.” If you don’t want personal data shared, stay off social media, never use a smart phone, and avoid platforms like Zoom.

However, we are not sharing confidential information, and most of us already use other platforms that share data. (Hello, Google!)

The only email invitation I send is to Jeff - no one else should get a meeting notice via email.

So I’m going to use Zoom. I totally understand the concerns. I also appreciate the honest feedback. It’s valuable.

Second virtual fly in is scheduled and going to be posted separately.
