uAvionix ADSB out - "BaroAlt" Fail

Postby GraemeSmith » Fri Aug 02, 2019 8:05 am

For those that might follow.

Specific to my experience with the echoUAT unit but apparently applies to other uAvionix units:

I installed and flew my test flight. The FAA Performance Report report came back as perfect except for the "BaroAlt" parameter which was an 85% fail rate.

A little forum digging and talking to uAvoinix.

A suggested fix is:

In the software on the screen of your phone or tablet where you are configuring the unit.

Connect to your uAvionix unit.
Tap "Configuration"
Tap the uAvionix logo at the top of the screen with two spaced fingers.
Scroll down to a new menu that appears below the UPDATE button.

Set - SDA to 2
Set Transponder threshold:

The default value is 1600. Try 1400.

Tap UPDATE ADVANCED

Perform a test flight.

"BaroAlt" should have improved. If it is still not a "pass" lower the Transponder Threshold setting in steps of 100, performing a test flight each time till you get a satisfactory result. Do not lower the setting below 1000. If 1000 doesn't get you a satisfactory result - back to uAvionix.

I flew my performance flight today and had the same failure. I will try ASAP using your fix. I hope it works. Here is a link to my Flickr site showing the install

Hi Everyone,
I reset the transponder threshold to 1400 and SDA to 2. I then flew and got my clean report back from the FAA. Here is a copy of the data on my Flickr site.

Re: uAvionix ADSB out - Revised

Hi Everyone,

Well, It's always something. I finally have all the stuff fixed on my airplane and the weather may break soon but we are having a bit of a problem with " Other Things".

So I decided to revise my ADS-B system. The following photos show what I did.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/planeolbo ... 1677563048

ForeFlight did not give me the kind of navigation I was used to with my old GPS. So what I did was to load ForeFlight into my iPhone 5s and move the little bracket over next to the GPS. This gives me a display the confirms the ADS-B is working, General location of weather without blocking any outside visibility. Since my power has two slots I can still have the Ipad mini for cross country trips. I also replaced my circuit breaker to one I can pull in case I need to shut down my ADS-B out when I go to Oshkosh (cross our fingers).

Anyway, I hope to fly in a few days to see how all this works.

Stay Healthy,
Stay Calm,
Stay Safe.

Blue Skies,
Bob Mika

Hi Bob,

Off topic I know, but what was the problem with your EGTs?
