This is how I installed the fuel valve and it's remote control. Just remove the handle from the valve and install it so it lines up correctly, install the handle and the remote control. The reason for this set-up is to avoid side loads on the fuel valve which might cause it to leak at some stage.

Hi Dirk,

Thanks for the pic. I'm going to try to get by without a "remote control". We'll see if I can get it past the DAR. For me it's really not a problem to just reach under and turn the fuel on.

BTW, where have you been? Lots of flying I hope.

Hi guys,

I'm still trying to work my way out of the plumbing mess I seem to have made for myself. I think things will work out alright if I can just find this one fitting. I need to adapt an AN6 male to 1/4" male NPT. I just can't seem to find it. Maybe I don't know what to call it, I don't know.

Anyway, that would allow me to screw the Gold Cube in down by the firewall and make for a pretty nice overall fuel plumbing solution.

If anybody can point me to such an adapter that would be great.

Thanks,

Wes

Thanks Jeff,

That'll do it. I'll see if I can get a full plumbing parts list together tomorrow. I hope I don't miss anything this time :-)

Hi Wes,
The Onex is doing perfectly fine and reached the 100 hrs mark last weekend during a long trip through Holland.
I recently did a mod to the air filter, I bolted a K&N RC 1980 to the oringinal top plate of the Aeroconversions filter to increase the air flow. This filter has exaclty the same hight as the Aeroconversions filter so fits under the cowl without any modifications.
As the summer is coming to an end, I will be busy again with the build of the Waiex-B.

I do know of a couple of instances where Teflon tape was restricting flows but it looks like you used some sort of pipe dope. For those using Teflon tape remember to use the tape designed for gas/oil.(not the white stuff). See you next time I am in your neighborhood.

Teflon type of any type should never really come near aircraft fuel or oil systems, as any small strands of tape that come off the threads and enter the system can lead to clogs in critical small passages (i.e. oil galleys and carb needles.)

Hi Guys,

While waiting on my plumbing supplies I decided to stuff my "budget" panel. I was going to forgo the GPS but finally caved. I know I don't *need" one, but I know I'll enjoy having one.

Used altimeter/airspeed, used hand held radio, new engine monitor, new GPS, and new compass from Bass Pro. Still came to about $2k.

I think the ergonomics of the handheld will work fine. All of the necessary frequencies should be programmed during pre-flight so they are just a knob twist away. It is mounted in such a way that when the buttons are needed you just slip your fingers behind the radio and work the buttons with your thumb.

I feel pretty good about it but won't know how well it works until I get everything wired. In the past I have always used belly mounted antenna. That has always worked well in the air but on occasion I've had trouble with ground communications.

Question: Do any of you guys have experience with the antenna on the belly and the turtle deck? If so, which is best? How do you mount an antenna on the turtle deck without hitting the "back bone"?

Thanks for Your Time,

Wes

hi wes,
just a couple of suggestions. when sitting in your seat , seatbelts strapped tight you will want to be able to operate the fuel valve. good for safety reasons. we used a small pushrod knob and ball joint.

we have an external antenna on the turtledeck behind the canopy. mounted directly centerline. if we did it again would just offset it a little, with a doubler underneath in side. too much work to put it on center.

keep at it. we will be grinning along with you on your first flight.
best,

The push pull knob also gives instant check that the hidden valve has not been accidentally nudged to partially closed position.
