I think the for and aft in the controls there are different. I think the bolt is tight and the outer surface of the bush is the bearing. If you look there is a sintered bronze washer on this one which must be clearanced with the bush.

I'd be surprised if any of the flight control bushings would be intended to rotate within a drilled aluminum hole for fear of embiggening/ovaling the aluminum versus the machined/harder bolts and/or steel pushrods.

Edit: I may have misunderstood the question, my point is that the bushings shouldn't be rotating within aluminum. There are places (and your control assembly question may have been exactly this) where the outside of the bushing allows the steel assembly to rotate around it (like at the idler.) So to backtrack on my previous statement, I think for the control stick assembly the bolt actually clamps onto the bushing when the nut is tightened and the assembly rotates around the bushing.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hey Billy,

You probably already know this, but ...

Back in the day, if a Sonex was built strictly according to plans, the cowl, windshield, and canopy didn't flow smoothly over the top to the turtle deck. The windshield was a little low at the bow. I think a lot of folks raised the the windshield just a little at the bow to get that smooth line.

For what it's worth...the distance I have from the bottom of the instrument panel cross tie, to the top of the bow strap is 16 1/4in. Haven't had it out in the daylight to eyeball the transition to the canopy, but it looks pretty good in the shop. I'll send you a picture.
