A fix for ovaled wing attach blocks

Postby kmacht » Fri Aug 09, 2013 8:39 pm

I posted this over on the yahoo groups but though someone reading here might find this usefull as well.

I just finished fixing one of my wing attach bolt holes that ovaled out when it was drilled. I found a great solution for those that have the same issue. I bought a set of three adjustable reamers that went from just under 3/8" to just over 7/16". I was able to slowly upsize the holes by running the reamers through the entire attach point (wings, and fusealage upights) with the wing installed. I up sized about 1/32 each pass. I ended up with a perfectly snug fitting hole for a 7/16" bolt and all the ovaling was completely gone.

The best part is that the reamers are on sale at Enco right now. Go to www.use-enco.com and search for part number 890-8858. The set of reamers is on sale for about $16.

It looks like it covers a pretty good amount of the larger holes we need to ream...1/4 to 3/8...I went ahead and ordered it...I'm going to see if I can use it to sneak up on a tight fit 3/8 bolt for the wing attach fittings. And it looks like it also will work for reaming some of the 1/4" hole that I have left.

Thanks for the tip heads up....
