Four Sonex (Sonexes?) to White Cliffs

We're not talking about the White Cliffs of Dover here. In fact there aren't even any cliffs at White Cliffs. It's a tiny opal mining community in outback Autralia. Just the place to have a group fly-in. Here's a link to my blog

One of the quirks of the town is that most of the people live underground, and that's not necessarily a hardship.

The trip was fun and we certainly felt like we were flying in a remote area, but to put things into perspective, an early pioneer of outback flying in the 30s was Nancy Bird. She learned to fly at a club in Sydney and then borrowed money to buy her own aircraft, a Gypsy Moth I think. She flew charter flights using dry lake beds as her airfields, taking off at first light to avoid the thermals later. At one time, one of her navigation points was a dead horse. Apparently the smell went to 2000 feet. With GPS and emergency locator beacons we really are spoilt now.
