Camp Sonex is open, OSH 19

Postby jaflint » Fri Jul 19, 2019 10:24 am

Landed right around 9am, taxied across the bridge, talked to the marshals about reserving the row up against the ditch for Sonexes. Told him there might be a Zenith, too.

Fly safe! See you all soon.

Hi all,
Big storms rolling thru wi. Since last nite . Rain till sunday morning. Grounds may get saturated and affect parking. If you cant get into osh, try FLD. Fond du Lac . Local eaa chapter has camping, bathrooms, showers, tie downs. Shuttles running to osh. Food vendor on site. Temp tower.
Good luck be safe!

It’s soggy but everybody and their planes are safe. Five of us, so far. The bridge is currently closed due to wet ground, but that just means we’ll have plenty of room when it dries out and opens back up.

The conditions kept the Zenith Phoenix from crossing the moat to Camp Sonex. The only reason Gary and I were allowed in at all were his tundra tires on Sunday. They put us in RV town north of the pavilion. I think after two years of establishing Camp Sonex, we have staked our claim. We now need a flag. One thing I noticed though, they didn't have showers right there like last year. I heard they moved them because of all the relocating.

The showers showed up Monday. All was right with the world.

Jake Logan and I were the last ones out of Camp Sonex, early this morning. At our peak, we had ten Sonex family planes in the row, and another across the bridge closer to the HBC pavilion.

Hope to see us all (and more) back again next year!

Great job this year Jason. As the unofficial "Mayor of Camp Sonex", we all owe you a big thank you for getting camp staked out and "protected" from poachers! I think EAA now knows that the area along the ditch belongs to Camp Sonex!

See you all next year!
