Trials and tribulations of working alone

Postby T41pilot » Tue Jul 09, 2019 6:52 pm

Up until now, while working on the fuselage and smaller parts, whenever I needed a second pair of hands, bungee cords, clamps and straps have been there for me to handle the job. Enter the wing. The bulk and weight became an issue when it started looking like a wing. I found that I wanted to flip it around a lot while working on it. Also, I had leveled my workbench in every direction and wanted to continue to use that surface to work from. Finding a Human to help me the moment I wanted to do something different was becoming an issue. I had already lost a bunch of time this past winter due to the cold and didn't want to stop work now that I'm in the building mentality again. My solution took some trial and error to get it right , but it's working well now. I can raise the wing and flip it on a dime now with practically no physical effort. It spins on the PVC tube nicely. I have foam strips underneath and can clamp the wing to the bench yet when necessary. The other wing should come together quicker now. Some may think my solution was overkill instead of just working on a couple of sawhorses, but that's how I roll.

Oooo, that's clever. Nice tip! Should work well to get them in/out of a wing rack as well!
