Odyssey Battery PC625 vs PC680

Hey Everyone,

I realized after installing my Odyssey PC625 battery/battery box I don't have much clearance to remove it. I could try moving some things around but I unfortunately placed most of the permanent items already on the firewall foolishly. I would love to use the PC680 since it is a bit thinner in its place. Has anyone used this battery instead of the PC625 and what were your thoughts on cranking ability on the Aerovee/Jabiru and longevity. The Odyssey site says the PC680 has 50 less CCA, reserve time is only 2 min less and weight is 2lbs less as well versus the PC625 but it is an inch thinner which will be helpful for me. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Had a PC680 starting my Jabiru, CAMit 3300 since 2012. No problems.I have a pre-heater for Winter, but really would not want to start it in Winter without that regardless of battery size.

Made the door opening on the side of my battery box, full length hinge on both sides of door gives good integrity to the box, pull one pin to open the door. Make sure battery can clean the hinge on firewall that fastens the cowl.

Odyssey PC-680 Experience

I have used the PC-680 in my last 2 RV's......one was an I0-360 Lycoming and the other an 0-320 Lycoming. They were completely trouble free.....both lasting 5 to 6 years. My buddy has a Harmon Rocket with an I0-540 Lycoming and also use the PC-680.....it has enough "grunt" to start that engine with no problem.

I decided to use that same battery in my Onex (yes, it is overkill) …...it's "slim line" fits nicely on the firewall and is very easy to remove if needed. If someone wants photos of that email me gdbaxter78@gmail.com

Of note: My last flight for the winter was Dec. 2nd until yesterday (Mar.29th). I never charged it in the 4 months it sat in the hanger and it still was showing 12.6 volts yesterday before I hit the starter...….of course it spun the Hummel over with no effort.

Incidentally…….it was great to get "back in the saddle" after 4 months. The Onex flies great......all you builders, keep at it so you can join in the fun some day.

Thank you for all your input. I think a lighter slimmer battery will probably work best for my application. I love the mounting options for the 680 vs the 625 as well.
