While I’m waiting on aircraft spurce, back to my tail wheel. Can anyone tell me the weight of their wheel assembly? Trying to compare with my mine. Thanx Billy

I've got a Peter Anson unit. Half nylon-half aluminum wheel with the 6in pneumatic tire. Not including anything except the pivot/wheel assembly, I get 700grams or 24.7oz or 1.55lbs.

All dimpled and countersunk. Tomorrow clean up parts, cleco, and rivet. (Still a mess here)

Hi Billy
I recently removed my original old solid tailwheel and installed a 6" pnuematic tire, steerable, full swivelling unit. If you are going the 6" pnuematic definitely go a higher quality black scooter tire in lieu of the grey wheelchair tire. The grey ones wear real quick, I also had one blow out on a landing I would rather forget.

732 grams is the weight of the old original 4"

Looks like my modified scott tailwheel weighs about 2010 grams or 4.4 lbs. I am using a heavier engine so I guess we’ll see how weight and balance turn out.

Getting ready to rivet my first spar I noticed a screwup. I dimpled and countersunk 7 holes to far on the top spar. Will substituting those hole with flush rivets be a problem? Guess I’m trying to go to fast. Thanx

I'd ping Sonex tech support for the official answer. But, a dimple into a countersink will give you better shear strength than a universal head rivet. Seems fine to me. On my Hummelbird I did flush rivets on the entire center spar for ease of assembly. They only called out flush where the brackets for bolting in lay against the spar. That was approved by the designer. Different airplane so that is more of an anecdote.

So I’m practicing the bolt method to do the rivets. Do the round head rivets have a flat on them from the bucking bar when set? Thanx again. Billy
