New engine? (Motorav)

Sorry if I'm behind the curve on this one - just heard about and it sounds really promising and maybe the best value in a purpose built engine I've seen. Anybody with some detailed intel?

They set up booths at fly ins occasionally, they have a web site, they generate buzz. I've never seen one in a customer's airplane, but believe that maybe they do actually sell them. I think anyone who goes this route should be prepared to be pretty much on their own.

They are clean looking engines. I put my name on the list a couple years ago and never heard from the company.

Looking at their site, it looks like they are still in the ramp up, and looking for US representation. Maybe they weren't ready for you. If/when I get there, I'm going to look more into these guys. I was thinking aerovee turbo, but this motor seems a lot more robust to me, especially the crank.

According to the internet sites of Motorav and UL Power, the UL Power 260i (97 horsepower) and 260is (107 horsepower) weigh 159.4 pounds, while the Motorav (100 horsepower) weighs 189 pounds. That is a 29.6 pound difference. Something to consider. While considering, the 118 or 130 horsepower versions of the UL Power 350 engines weigh 172.8 pounds, 16.2 pounds lighter than the Motorav, and the UL power engines are supported by Sonex.

Good point. But cost... always the cost matters or I wouldn't be in this market and would be running something with an IO360 or more. The UL power engines are much more expensive. A more valid compare would probably be the the quality of the design at a comparable $/HP, and this is where its interesting. Feels to me a nice compromise between aerovee and Jab.

Has anyone communicated with a Motorav dealer in the US, seen one in a Sonex product, or talked to a live customer who has received an engine?

site info looks stale. I filled out the web form.. lets see what transpires. This is definitely the best looking "VW style" engine I've seen.
